Baby Handprint Photos: Privacy, Safety & What Parents Should Know

You can photograph your baby's hand safely at home without forcing a pose or uploading more of your child's image than you intend. HandPrint Magic uses one hand photo to create keepsake PNG artwork. It is not an identity, health, or forensic service.

Photographing a baby's hand safely

Wait for a calm moment, such as after a feed or nap. Rest your child's hand on a plain, well-lit surface, support the wrist, and take several quick photos in natural window light. Never pull fingers apart or hold the hand open against resistance. If your child is uncomfortable, stop and try another day.

You only need a clear view of the palm and fingers. A close crop also keeps the photo focused on the keepsake, rather than the room or people around it.

Who should upload a child's photo

A parent or legal guardian should choose and upload the photo. If another family member takes it, make sure the parent or guardian has agreed before it is sent. This is especially useful for gifts: ask for the hand photo, not a full family album.

What happens to the uploaded photo

HandPrint Magic processes the photo to create your handprint artwork. The original photo is deleted after generation. If you upload a photo but do not buy the result, that upload is deleted within 7 days. You can read the full details in our data retention information.

Private keepsake or social media post?

A hand-only image shares less than a full portrait, but it is still your child's image. If you want the keepsake to stay private, crop closely to the hand, save the finished PNG in your own photo library, and share printed copies with family. Before posting it publicly, consider whether you are comfortable with the name, date, location, or other details that may appear in a caption or frame. HandPrint Magic uses the uploaded hand photo to create artwork, not to identify a child or create biometric templates.

Five checks before you upload

• Crop out faces and personal details if they appear in the frame.
• Choose a photo with an open, relaxed palm and visible fingers.
• Use even daylight so creases and edges are clear.
• Avoid filters, stickers, screenshots, and heavy shadows.
• Upload only a photo you have permission to share.

Privacy and safety FAQ

Do I need to include my child's face? No. A close hand-only photo is enough and is usually the best starting point.

Is the handprint a biometric record? No. The delivered PNG is keepsake artwork. HandPrint Magic does not offer biometric identification or matching, and does not create biometric templates.

Can I use an older photo? Yes, provided you are the parent or guardian or have their permission to upload it. Clear daylight photos with the palm visible produce the most useful result.
